Born in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, Pete Britos is a writer and visual artist. He was raised in a family band and as a youngster traveled the world playing music and dancing.
In the 1980s he competed in racquetball and squash out of Hawaiʻi, Southern California and Switzerland. Pete was a pro at the Oʻahu Athletic Club, Rockyʻs Racquet World in Hollywood, and the Sequoia Athletic Club in Huntington Beach.
When he left the sports industry, Pete worked as a logger, painter and watch factory cleaner in Switzerland, and then spent most of the 1990s in Los Angeles working in television, film, radio, gaming, telecommunications and academia as a writer, producer, director, crew member, amongst other things.
Britos worked in the information technology and entertainment sectors of Los Angeles and at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts (USC-SCA), where he earned an MFA in Screenwriting and a PhD. in Critical Media Studies.
In 2003 Pete returned home to Hawaiʻi, and helped develop and launch art, film, digital media and animation programs at the University of Hawaiʻi-Mānoa (UHM), Hawaiʻi Pacific University (HPU), and at other institutions, like the State Foundation for Culture & the Arts where he was Gallery Director at the Hawai'i State Art Museum.
Pete has taught a range of courses at HPU, UHM, UC Santa Barbara Department of Film and Media Studies, and at USC-SCA, including photography, cinematography, creative narrative production, documentary filmmaking and screenwriting.
A filmmaker and novelist, his speculative fiction novel/scifi VALLEY OF SPIRALING WINDS was published by University of Hawaiʻi Press in 2025.
His feature film HOUSE OF THE SHARK is produced by Black Sand Productions.
